Transitions and Transformations
Sobriety is usually assessed in terms of conventional time measurement i.e. “days”, “weeks”, “months”, etc.
Transitions marked by “anniversaries” are celebrated time after time.
The implication is that “clean time” validates one recovery.
It doesn’t.
Think of sobriety as a state of being. In essence, sobriety is timeless. It is the “here and now” only.
Its qualty cannot be verified by past anniversaries but only by its substantive nature today!
Let’s not relegate important aspects of our character to a subordinate position as we obsess over what not to do!
Rather, remember your anniversary date as a pivot point in time when you turned to focus on only what to do - maximizing your humanity!
Keep transitioning but with a purpose of transforming- becoming more empathetic, patient, thoughtful, caring and forgiving!
